3rd December 2006

Test

Former colleagues and friends of the late Catherine Judge recently joined world renowned pianist and founder of Camerata Ireland, Barry Douglas, in Belfast to launch the Catherine Judge Memorial Award for young Northern Ireland musicians.

The award has been created in memory of Catherine Judge, an employee of Bank of Ireland, who passed away in August 2005. It will be presented annually to an exceptional solo classical musician who wishes to continue their music education at a third level. The winner will receive a bursary of £5,000 towards their studies and, as a result of Barry Douglas’ personal commitment to the award, may have the opportunity to perform at one of Camerata Ireland’s concerts".

At the October launch at Ormeau Baths Gallery in Belfast, Barry Douglas said: "The Catherine Judge Memorial Award shares our own goal at Camerata Ireland of supporting a new generation of musical talent here on the island of Ireland and I’m delighted to be involved." Harry McDaid, Director, Bank of Ireland Business Banking UK, added: "Catherine was not only passionate about music, she also believed in supporting organisations and causes which could help young people achieve their potential. This award is a fitting and lasting legacy to Catherine."
